Mounted Horse Patrol Field Trip

Established in 1998, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s Horse Mounted Patrol Unit is a full-time team consisting of seven officers and one sergeant. The unit plays a vital role in providing security and crowd management at major events, including professional sporting events, parades, concerts, CMA Fest, and other citywide gatherings. Additionally, the Mounted Patrol enhances community engagement by patrolling various neighborhoods, fostering positive interactions between officers and residents.

The unit utilizes a variety of horses, from Tennessee Walking Horses to Belgians. Horses are obtained through donations and purchases from reputable businesses specializing in training service mounts. Officers are responsible for all aspects of horse care, including preparing hay fields, feeding quality grains, and ensuring regular veterinary check-ups. They take great pride in maintaining the horses’ health and readiness to serve the Nashville community.
